ABOUT LARA
The Full Story
Lara Cugno, based in the vibrant city of Fort Lauderdale, emerges as a dynamic force in the world of multi-media art, seamlessly blending creativity with advocacy. As the founder of Sugarcoats Art Decor, Lara brings to life a diverse range of artistic expressions, transcending traditional boundaries from canvas to custom furniture pieces.
Her artistic journey is intertwined with a remarkable tale of resilience, turning personal adversity into a source of inspiration for others. Lara is not just an artist; she is a survivor, having overcome the challenges of sexual assault. Art became her sanctuary, aiding not only in physical recovery but serving as a conduit for mental healing. Driven by her experiences, Lara played a pivotal role in the passage of Marsy’s Law in Florida. This legislation ensures that victims of crime receive constitutional rights equivalent to those accused and convicted.
Lara's commitment to advocacy extends beyond legislation. She utilizes her art to foster connections within the community, especially those grappling with trauma. Each piece she creates becomes a powerful tool to unite individuals with a shared longing to be seen, heard, and healed. Today, Lara is a certified art, music, and trauma therapist/life coach at the Yacholet-Ikann Center for Girls in Recovery from Trauma, where she continues to make a profound impact.
Remaining deeply rooted in the artist community, Lara has been an active member at Artserve, participated in Art Attack’s Artbrawl competitions, and currently captivates audiences as a featured live artist at the MASS District Fort Lauderdale Artwalk. From being a featured vendor to a resident artist, Lara now holds the position of Secretary on the board of the thriving non-profit arts and entertainment organization MASS District.
Lara Cugno's art transcends the canvas; it is a testament to the transformative power of creativity and a beacon of hope for those navigating their own paths to healing. Through her advocacy and artistic prowess, Lara invites others to join her on a journey of resilience, empowerment, and artistic discovery.
